How to transfer a domain without downtime

Domain transfers can be safe if you plan DNS correctly. The goal is to keep website and email online while ownership changes.

Before you start

  • Confirm the domain is unlocked and you have access to the admin email.
  • Lower DNS TTL to 300 seconds (a few hours before changes).
  • Export current DNS zone records.

Step-by-step transfer plan

  1. Get the authorization/EPP code from the current registrar.
  2. Start the transfer at the new registrar.
  3. Do not change nameservers during the transfer unless required.
  4. After transfer completion, verify DNS and email delivery.

Zero-downtime DNS move (optional)

If you also want to move DNS hosting, copy all records first, then switch nameservers once the new zone is verified.
